The
concept for the Concert H
ands began in 1999. The Florida based company was created in 2001 and later
became Rubato Productions Inc. Inventor, and President,
Rob McGregor and Info-Tek Associates Inc. have developed the
Concert
Hands
over a period of seven years.
The
goal of this trademarked and patented product is
to revolutionize the learning
process of playing the piano and keyboard and in the
near future other musical instruments.
Research
began by using a computer
graphic projection of a piano keyboard. Then Colored
lights would indicate which keys to be played next.
By projecting
the image to a mirror above the piano it was reflected
onto real piano keys. The image was reversed in the
mirror, but then was corrected by the projector. A large
track
ball mouse was used, after removing the ball, and
using one foot to advance to the next lighted keys to be
played. Once you got used to the various finger stretches
of
advanced
chords you could play songs of the most advanced
level, though not at normal tempo. You could not play fast
tempo
or advanced chord structure songs because there would
be too many lighted keys changing at too quick a pace.
Hand/eye reaction time could never be fast enough though
many
volunteers
tried.
Products
that existed on the market at the time had the same problem.
They lit up the piano keys
for
you to push next within the songs they supplied.
However, those lights could only be followed in simple
songs. You could
not play very advanced music and as a result people
became bored with playing songs at a basic level and
the
novelty
wore off.
That's
where the Concert Hands concept comes in. Two carriages
move you hands and fingers to
the black and white keys and finger sleeves guide your
fingers
down to lower each key at the proper time.
